[tonight] Love Inks @ O'Brien's Pub :: UPDATE: show canceled

Hey nevermind this got canceled. Too good to be true.

First, the good news: Austin, Texas, minimalist pop trio LOVE INKS are in town tonight, playing O’Brien’s Pub in Allston. The bad news: Their Boston debut falls on the same night as Game 3 of the Stanley Cup Final. Potentially good (if not entirely helpful) news: They’re not from Vancouver.

We know how this city reacts to its sports teams playing for a championship, so while the TVs at the O will no doubt be showing the Bruins and Canucks battling it out across town at the TD Garden, consider this an “alt” or “indie” or whatever refuge from the Bro-town sports bar scene certain to swallow up most of Allston tonight.

It’s almost crazy that the ready-to-blow-the-fuck-up Love Inks are playing a venue as intimate as O’Brien’s Pub -- there's an early 8pm doors time, they're the lone band on the bill, and there isn't even a show at Great Scott up Harvard Ave -- but we’ll no doubt take this warm, tight introduction to a band poised to have a stellar 2011, following in the gentle indie/pop footsteps of the likes of the xx and Tennis.

I first met up with Love Inks at SXSW, when after a quick chat with Penguin Prison at some brunch BBQ joint, NYC publicist extraordinaire Alexandra Baker of High Rise directed me to a friendly table of post-breakfast delights manned by Sherry LeBlanc and the boys. Since our getting-to-know-you chat down in their home city, where the crew oozed a casual confidence that almost guaranteed I'd be hearing from them again very soon, the Ink'd three dropped debut record ESP. Short for “Emotive Simple and Personal,”  the record is an engaging, back-to-basics approach to pop songwriting (we can't stop playing "Leather Glove," posted above). LeBlanc’s vocal pull is chillfully hypnotic, the band's musical ease almost unsettling. Don’t get too worked up, though -- LeBlanc is married to bandmate Kevin Dehan.(Another married couple in a band, where's the New York Times trend piece?!)

Here's Love Inks full tour slate -- yeah, most of these dates have passed, but in welcoming a new friends to town, it's always good to know where they've been...
