Boston Hip-Hop Heads Will Nod This Weekend (performances by Blu, Homeboy Sandman, Boot Camp, and more – plus a chance to win FREE Celtics tixx)

Boy Sand

If you're anything like me, then you canceled plans to ski and shop in Aspen this weekend in order to stick around the Bean and check two of the freshest shows to peel through here in recent memory (though last Friday, with simultaneous sets from Reks, Eternia, Scribblenauts, and Freddie Gibbs, was dope, if not overwhelming).

First - on Saturday night - is one of the final hip-hop shows at Harpers Ferry (click flier for more info). Sure - they'll be re-opening soon enough under a new name and with new management, but still - this is a pretty big deal. And the timing is only compounded by the fact that Homeboy Sandman - easily one of my favorite MCs out right now - will be ripping his first gig in the Bean. Add on the almighty Blu with a live band, and this is a 100 percent must-see.

If that's not enough of an onslaught, the action continues deep into Sunday with the Boston stop on Duck Down's 15th Anniversary tour. I saw this at SXSW - and have been following the subsequent stops via YouTube - and can honestly say that this may be one of the toughest combination tours of the past decade.

We get a lot of Boot Camp up here - heads should check this article I wrote for Sean P's last visit - but this show, featuring none other than the Pharoahe himself - should be a crowning victory that will have every hip-hop head in Boston hung over at work well into the middle of next week. There's also a chance to win Celtics tickets (see below) - which makes this even more of a no-brainer than it already was.

From the good folks at Duck Down:
Fans who email contests@duckdown.com with proof of an advance ticket purchase (receipt from ticket web or from box office) are eligible to win two free tickets to the Boston Celtics home game on Friday, November 5th, against the Chicago Bulls. The tickets are Loge seating, section 18, row 2, seats 9 & 10. Contestants must include their full name, email address, phone # & mailing address. The winner will be randomly selected on the evening of the show at Middle East & announced by Buckshot from the stage, who will present the pair of tickets to the winner.
