Ugh, ugh, ugh: Drummer Gerhardt "Jerry" Fuchs (!!!/Turing Machine/Maserati/Juan Maclean) dead at 34
A bit of heartbreaking news from Brooklyn over the weekend. After a party in a converted noodle factory building in the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn, inhumanly talented drummer Gerhardt "Jerry" Fuchs and a friend found themselves trapped five floors up in an old elevator. In an attempt to escape (reported here), Fuchs and friend tried leaping to the available entry of the fifth floor. Friend made it, Jerry didn't -- apparently getting caught on the elevator, swinging back and falling five stories. He was pronounced dead at 3:30 am.
Anyone who has seen Fuchs perform knows what a loss this is; but as a member of so many bands, a major influence on just as many others, and as a beloved friend to hundreds within and among the independent rock scene, the loss may be incalcuable. Our thoughts go out to his friends and family.
