It's lame to scold so-called enlightened rap fans for neglecting to support their favorite artists. But while it already sucks that heads shamelessly steal music, it's even worse that so many stay home when legends swing through town.
Don't sweat it though - I was at Harpers Ferry with a camera last week to catch West Coast freestyle femme Medusa and Brother J of X-Clan. I didn't tape the whole thing, but I definitely got enough to make those of you who know you should have been there feel dumb for missing out.
I unfortunately didn't shoot the entire show, but New York singer-songwriter Danielle Ponder (think Lauryn on her unplugged album) and Kiki Breevlife (think Lauryn shattering chauvinistic nonsense) also ripped heavy, thoughtful sets for the 150-or-so cats who showed.
Anyway...check the videos, and catch a glimpse of what you missed in class. And - next time your preferred hype-and-bling-free MC comes to Boston - please show some support. Revolutions cost money people.
