Nominate-best-2010

Any Questions?: Everything you wanted to know about Phosphorescent, but were afraid to ask.

The gentleman pictured above is actually not that guy that keeps hitting up your match.com profile, he's Matthew Houck, a/k/a Phosphorescent, and his brand of countrified fucked-folk is as vibrant and cozy as his sleeping arrangements. Earlier this month, the venerable Dead Oceans label released To Willie, just short of a dozen Willie Nelson covers performed with the sort of ardor only a true fan of the Red Headed Stranger could demonstrate (the album's title itself is a nod to Nelson's 1975 tribute to Lefty Frizell, To Lefty, From Willie).

In our ongoing effort to simultaneously democratize our shiz and unburden our readers of the anguish that can result from harboring unanswered questions, we're opening the floor. If you have a question you'd like us to ask Mr. Houck, just send it right along to me or leave it safe and warm in our comments field. Tomorrow, we'll be (near nude, swaddled in bedsheets, drinking yerba mate and) speaking to Houck by phone, and we'll select the best Willie-Nelson-related (or not) questions to ask of His Curliness.

You've made a wonderful tribute to Willie, Mr.Houck.  I was wondering if you support Willie Nelson's suspicion of the official story of 9/11 and do you also wish for a new investigation just as Willie does?

Mr. Houck, I have only seen you perform once up on stage - that being the MFA show last season with Vetiver. I noticed you have a habit of turning away from the audience during your guitar solos. Is it something you do consciously? A nervous habit? Otherwise, it was a thoroughly enjoyable show.
