Mp3 of the week: Tenafly Vipers
DOWNLOAD: The Tenafly Vipers, "All Style, No Class" (mp3)
The weirdest part of that whole late-'90s Swedish obsession with swagger and grit was how it came to rest, oddly enough, on the North Shore, where Monster Magnet and Buckcherry magically turned townies into Backyard Babies fans. Fine by us. The Tenafly Vipers claim to have been around in some form or another since '79, but their new EP All Style, No Class sounds class-of-'99 to us. It's split between Nine Pound Hammer/Lazy Cowgirls raunch-n-roll and the GNR/Social Distortion school of hard-knock glam punk. This one's kinda in between, and is hereby recommended to anyone who owns a Cosmic Psychos or a Devil Dogs record. They just threw down at the Abbey last week, but the official CD release for the EP goes down July 22 at Collins Colonial in Peabody with RC Crimewave, the Acro-Brats, and the Spoilers.
