Felicity Huffman in Transamerica? Nope, it's the faux-Nico from Serena Maneesh.
Ah, the digital age of hyper-hype. It’s becoming a familiar story: Pitchfork gives the import-only version of your first full-length a glowing review, overzealous bloggers give you the requisite stroke jobbing, and before you even have a record out in the US, there’s a backlash a-brewin’. Norwegian five-piece SERENA MANEESH’s homonymous debut doesn’t drop stateside until the end of May, but some Internerd message-boarders have already dismissed the band as shoegazing, My Bloody Valentine–aping retreads. Our blog aggregator was able to scare up only the album’s opening three tracks, but goddamn if we’re not intrigued. Sylvester-approved Norwegians headline T.T. the Bear’s Place tonight with CHARLENE and APPLETOWN GUN SHOP | 10 Brookline Ave, Cambridge | 617.492.BEAR.
