Boston, quieten down

Yes, the LCD Soundsystem/M.I.A. show was as good as billed: destruction at both ends of the bill. (If y'all are nice to Cami, maybe she can dig around and find out if Amy's photos are in yet.) But, uh, the big question on everyone's mind seemed to be: what happened to Diplo? Maya introduced the guy-who-looked-like-Diplo-and-played-dude's-records as their "new addition," pretty sure by name of DJ Contra. This post does not make us feel secure. Can we just reiterate for a second how weird it was to see someone else playing the signature Diplo records? Ran into the Plunge into Death/Big Digits crew, who were equally weirded out -- they'd been wondering whether Contra literally had Diplo's actual crates, which didn't seem like a silly thought if you heard him.

That said, Maya was pretty damn good. Still dances like a girl who hasn't quite gotten over her skinny-awkward-13-year-old-girl phase, but she was jumping up on speakers and putting in some serious crowd-decontrol effort. And we'll co-sign Lemon-Red's assessment: partly the crowd's fault. Not because they weren't appreciative: they wanted that encore. But when she comes back out and does Bingo/Big Pimpin' and it FAILS TO START A RIOT, it's time to change your diet. Boston: more bananas, please.

PiT/Big Digits dudes were all eh on LCD, but OTD's gotta admit: we thought that was a pretty goddamn staggering display of rock. Bought the t-shirt and everything. At several junctures, realized that the link between Six Finger and LCD is even closer than we thought, and also realized that LCD are (no offense to 6FS, who were great) about ten times better.

OTD is off to mini-OTD's pre-school graduation, thence to New Orleans. Back in time for Tuesday Ticket Alert, which bit the dust this week due to technical difficulties. But just in case anyone's sweating it, tickets for Destiny's Child at FleetCenter go on sale Monday morning.

TONIGHT: Buffalo Tom, Youth Group, Click Five, Blanche, Ditty Bops, Pepper's Ghost, and more.
