Critics of Iraq War at the State House
US Senator Sheldon Whitehouse is slated to join other critics of the war, including members of Ocean State Action, state Senator Josh Miller and state Representative Art Handy, in a 10 am demonstration this morning at the State House. Ocean State will release a report on the cost of the war to RI taxpayers.
From a news release:
This will be Senator Whitehouse’s final Rhode Island appearance before returning to Washington as Congress reconvenes later that day. With the release of key progress reports expected in September, the issue of spending on the Iraq war in Iraq is expected to dominate the debate in Washington throughout the fall. Other speakers will include Robert Walsh, Executive Director of the National Education Association of R.I., a member of the Ocean State Action coalition, and Karen Malcolm, the coalition’s Executive Director.
The report, titled “Getting U.S. Back on Track” and authored by the USAction Education Fund, illustrates how modest new investments in neglected priorities such as education and health care for the people of Rhode Island would amount to a fraction of what is spent every month on the war.
