TRON Legacy update: 'Comi-TRON' and Daft Punk get dark

By now, we've all seen the trailer for Tron Legacy (and that's the most recent incarnation above, in case you're interested). Putting aside the wholly likely possibility that I'll be burnt out on 3D movies by the Dec 17 release date, my anticipation level is at an 11. What can I say? I'm a sucker for mega-budgeted sci-fi epics. And Jeff Bridges? Don't even get me started.

In a world growing increasingly cluttered with shitty post-production 3D transfers, Legacy should prove to be the logical successor to the visual happy ending that was James Cameron's Pandora.

So why am I blogging today about a film that's been buzzed about for years and has had a trailer attached to the front-end of every blockbuster released this summer? Two very timely excuses actually.

Firstly, there is a little ol' convention going down in SoCal this weekend by the name of Comic-Con. Perhaps you've heard of it. Yesterday, Disney devoted much of their 90-minute slot to the sequel of the 1982 film. On hand at the 'Comi-TRON' panel was director Joseph Kosinski, producer Sean Bailey, original creator Steven Lisberger, and stars Garrett Hedlund, Michael Sheen, Bruce Boxleitner, Olivia Wilde, and Jeff Bridges (<3). They offered up a short 3D mini-documentary on the pop-culture impact of the original Tron (from The Simpsons to South Park to Tron on Ice) and debuted the above trailer.

Secondly, wily robot duo Daft Punk is producing the soundtrack and six instrumental cuts from the film are now streaming over at the Tron website. And this isn't your day-glo hipster cousin's Daft Punk either. The immediate descriptor that comes to mind is brooding. For premium sound intake (read: without annoying laser noises), you can click the SFX button on the left side of the screen located below the menu.

Hopefully these two tidbits are enough to provide some insight as to why I haven't been this geeked up for a movie since Return of the King. If you see a guy dressed like this at the midnight screening on Dec 17, come introduce yourself. I'm a friendly guy. I swear.
