These 10 homegrown hip-hop artists are ready to graduate to the big time
With Sam Adams burning up the iTunes charts and Slaine set to co-star in Ben Affleck’s upcoming Charlestown heist flick, The Town, major-label poachers may well be looking toward Boston for the next up-and-gunning rap talents. Here at the Phoenix, we take great pride in keeping fans in tune with New England’s legendary underground scene. But rising behind the likes of Esoteric, Dre Robinson, Termanology, and Akrobatik is a hungry pack of MCs and producers — all of whom bring fresh sounds and ideas to the local table. We’ve sorted through the crowd and picked 10 exciting acts that we expect to bust big in 2010 — from the hipster-hoppers to the ladies to the Iranian-American law student. In addition to the YouTube videos noted here and the “Download Now” songs linked at our site, each of our 10 MCs recorded an exclusive 16-bar a cappella video available only here. So to all you record execs out there whose legwork we just did — you’re welcome!
