At the conclusion of the post-screening Q&A, as Bigelow was being shuttled toward a back door, she recognized Mirko Rucnov, a naturalized citizen and recent graduate of her alma mater, Columbia University.

"I remember your film," she said of his award-winning short, Prvi Dan Mira (First Day of Peace), which takes place during the '90s civil war in Bosnia. "It was amazing. If there's anything I can do to help . . . " Yes, humble, and gracious, too.
