Seeing as the good Lord made to-go containers for a reason, we didn't hesitate to also order one of their five pastas. A temptation was the Hill Special ($14), with grilled chicken, sun-dried tomatoes, wild mushrooms, and smoked Gouda cream sauce. We went instead for the Spruce Street Special ($14). It had the same grilled chicken and wild mushrooms, but with grilled yellow onions in what was described as a marsala wine sauce. I expected the usual thin sauce, but this was a thick red version bolstered with the sweet wine, alcohol boiled off and leaving a rich, hearty flavor. Loved it.
Not so loved was the blackened chicken sub ($7.50), with Cajun spices and the smoked Gouda I saved for this opportunity. The combination sounded good in theory but conflicted in action, to my taste. You might respond differently. The 12-inch grinders are also available as wraps.
All in all, a pretty good experience. Bob & Timmy may be absent, but the spirit of their pizza carries on.

Watching folks eat at national fast-food outlets depresses me. Not only are they paying for advertising, but they're getting so little give-a-damn in their food. You sense that acutely after dining at a neighborhood place like Ali's Roti, a 22-seat counter-service Trinidadian restaurant at the western edge of the South End.
