A very effective cyclists lobby
By KARA BASKIN | November 6, 2007
The Massachusetts Bicyclist Coalition — better known as MASSBIKE — is here to serve and protect . . . the interests of cyclists, that is. Through their education and advocacy work, they've been making the Boston area a better place to bike since 1977. So next time you coast down the Minuteman Bikeway, haul your cycle onto the subway, or hang your bike on an MBTA bus rack, count your blessings. Thanks in large part to their work, Massachusetts is one of the most biker-friendly states in the country. The guys and gals at MassBike encourage lawmakers to embrace biker-friendly initiatives (and reject dangerous bills, such as one which would've forced cyclists to ride facing traffic). They're also instrumental in working with the RMV (poor things) to educate drivers about their two-wheeled counterparts. To help them spread the word about better biking, join at massbike.org. They offer discounts at bike shops and classes — and even on auto insurance.
