Coralcola
Mikey Lee's Coralcola makes you wait for it, makes you earn it. A sound heard when he first takes the stage — hood on, hunched over his laptop — soon grows into the centerpiece of a composition, a sound cloud that pulsates and stretches. "I'm all based off loops. Usually I have the loops at a low volume, so I have room to build. I start out messing with ambient stuff, then work in the beats." After a few minutes of gradual aural climb, the bits — which include an array of samples pulled off an old VCR recorder and creations off Ableton — merge in an ambient soundscape kept to the rhythm of Lee's bobbing head. Earlier in the year, the Paul Stretch program he treats like a girlfriend was responsible for slowing Justin Bieber down 800 percent and making him sound like Sigur Rós. We're certain Coralcola will put that software to even better use in 2k11.
