Mp3 of the Week: Beautiful Weekend "Treasure Trolls;" Saturday @ P.A.'s Lounge

BEAUTIFUL WEEKEND are here to show us two things: 1) there’s more to Joel Roston than the complex combinations he put together as part of the late Boston hardcore outfit Big Bear, and 2) Noell Dorsey of Guillermo Sexo still has that hauntingly operatic voice even without the catchy shoegaze of that crew. Roston and Dorsey first began working together in 2005 but just recorded their upcoming Beautiful Weekend album, Holy Hype!, over the course of last year. “Treasure Trolls,” a beautifully creepy three-and-a-half-minute dream sequence, is full of soft and steady harmonies. The deliberate musical mastery of both Roston and Dorsey are obvious here — they never let their voices get too far above the guitar’s quiet, constant folk riff, carefully landing on the same note they started. They’ll work out their intricate musical arrangements at the Holy Hype! Release party Saturday at P.A.’s Lounge, so grab the “Treasure Trolls” MP3 below.
