MORE ABOUT EYRAN KATSENELENBOGEN
A distant relative of Felix Mendelsshon and Martin Buber, Eyran Katsenelenbogen was born in Israel on July 5, 1965, and started taking piano lessons at the age of five with Aida Barenboim - mother and teacher of pianist / conductor Daniel Barenboim. In 1984, Eyran began his eight-year long apprenticeship with acclaimed Israeli pianist Menachem Wizenberg. After a series of solo performances held at Jerusalem Music Center, Katsenelenbogen was contracted by the Jazzis record label. Jazzonettes and One Time, recorded for Jazzis in 1989 and 1992, won high praises in the Parisian Jazz Hot magazine and the Jazz Journal of London, which dubbed Katsenelenbogen "an emerging talent to watch". In addition, the American National Library of Poetry published the pianist's poetic work from his CD companion booklet in its '96 anthology. On the basis of his recordings, Eyran was granted a scholarship by the New England Conservatory in Boston, where he studied with pianist Ran Blake, and collaborated with Danilo Perez, George Russell, Jimmy Heath, Gunther Schuller (a performance reviewed as "exemplary" by the Boston Globe) and many others. He graduated in 1997, with Academic Distinction, Excellence in Performance, Pi Kappa Lambda and four consecutive National Dean's List awards, and was appointed by the conservatory to teach for its extension division - a position he currently fulfils. Eyran.com, launched in 1998, is the Internet center of Eyran Music Global Network, which now includes numerous venues such as Amazon.com, Lycos Listening Room, MP3.com, Listen.com, Jazzis.com, IUMA.com, CDAlley.com and NorthCountry Distribution. Since its debut, Eyran.com has generated over 10,000 downloads of Eyran Music, CD sales, international recognition and accessibility on all major search engines. Eyran has recently released his forth CD Formation, partially produced by pianist Paul Bley. The CD One Is Not Fun, sponsored by The American Foundation For Autism, is in final production stages.
