Menino To Announce For Re-Election

I have confirmation that Tom Menino will announce his candidacy for re-election tomorrow, Wednesday, at a 5:00pm appearance at Digitas, on Arch Street.

It hasn't exactly been a mystery that he intended to run -- he's been in campaign mode for some time now -- but this puts to rest any lingering doubts that may be out there.

This is the official starting gun for the race: five months to the preliminary, and then six weeks for the top two to face off in the general election.

Menino starts out as a heavy favorite, and deservedly so. But he won't get a free pass, with Michael Flaherty and Sam Yoon in the race, along with others.
