This week on ThePhoenix.com, David Bernstein has a must-read piece about the ways in which the Scott Brown campaign learned from the Obama campaign to flip one of Massachusetts biggest political upsets ever.
One example that Democratic activists are already taking note of is WALKING EDGE, a new GPS-enabled smartphone app modeled on the one the Obama campaign released at the tail end of 2008 -- except that this one appears to be smarter.
In the rush of numbers coming in from the polls last night, one important number slipped under the radar -- and we mis-read it as much as anyone. But the Rasmussen poll numbers are actually quite clear on this. Health care was a factor in the Scott Brown-Martha Coakley race, but not in the way that commentators on both sides of the aisle are characterizing it.
The Phoenix's David Bernstein checked in on Facebook at 7:30 pm to say that the Democratic operatives he's talked to fall into two camps: one that says Brown wins by +5, and the other who say that Coakley makes up enough votes in the cities to eke it out by a nose.
On CNN, live shots of the respective campaign headquarters showed Brown's HQ in a state of euphoria -- and Coakley's HQ dead as a funeral.

For weeks now, we've been getting Twitter-spammed by minions of the radical right, who claimed that a nefarious cabal of hospital workers and ACORN staffers would be hard at work today rigging the Coakley/Brown election. This seemed to make many people excited -- the tea-party nuts were practically guaranteeing a rigged election! All you'd have to do is go to a polling place and watch the Democrats cheat! And then you could get it on camera! And blog about it for Americans for Limited Government's Washington News Alert!
KEITH OLBERMANN is a sports guy. Inside, we suspect he's not too happy about Martha Coakley's Red Sox flubs either. But there are times -- especially during the Hot Stove season -- when we put such minor things aside. Here's why:

When we woke up this morning, SCOTT BROWN was a trending topic on Twitter. MASSACHUSETTS was a trending topic on Twitter. But MARTHA COAKLEY was not. (That's since changed -- "Coakley" is on the charts, and there's an asterisk involved, since Twitter is counting anything with "Brown" in it as a Scott Brown tweet. Which means if you posted "Charlie Brown would've been a better candidate than these morons," it would've counted as a Tweet for Scott.
The Phoenix's DAVID BERNSTEIN will be all over your radio dial today, feeding us the inside dope on the Coakley/Brown race. Follow his updates on the TALKING POLITICS blog, on FACEBOOK, and on TWITTER. This morning, Bernstein chatted about TV campaigns, little old ladies in snow, and predicted that Martha Coakley will squeak out a win in today's Senate race election.
