On the eve of the Oscars, a crowd of actors, models, casting directors, talent scouts, and other local film and stage peeps gathered in the swanky bar at Newton's Hotel Indigo for a networking party presented by NE Actor and Model Club Inc. At a soiree packed to the gills with people who make their living standing out, we feared it might be hard to pick just one star of the show.

Film buffs and fashion aficionados alike gathered at Harvard Square's Brattle Theatre on Oscar night to watch the red carpet the way it was meant to be seen - on the big screen! Custom Oscar-inspired champagne cocktails and Cambridge Brewing Company beer flowed as VIPs bid on auction items and noshed on snacks from foodie havens Harvest and Flour.

Laissez les bons temps rouler! Bohemian hotspot the Beehive went all out for its sixth annual Mardi Gras party last month, drawing an international crowd of masked merrymakers to fete Fat Tuesday in true New Orleans style. Chef Rebecca Newell turned out Cajun-inspired dishes, bartenders kept up a steady stream of Bacardi Hurricanes, and the BT New Orleans 2nd Line Brass Band had diners moving in their seats and - once the dinner plates were cleared - on the dance floor.

The American Repertory Theater's third annual Valentine's Gala brought a well-dressed crowd of theater buffs to the Revere Hotel, where they mingled with drag queens, company members, and some dude named Zachary Quinto. The cocktail hour was followed by dinner, dancing, and awards, plus a sneak-preview performance from Cirque du Soleil's Amaluna, directed by ART artistic director Diane Paulus and hitting Boston in the spring of 2014

To celebrate Jumpstart's 20th anniversary, the nonprofit's Boston Young Professionals Board decided to celebrate in true '20s fashion with a Gatsby-themed gala. Never ones to miss a chance at retro debauchery, we put on our dancing shoes and headed to Fort Point, where we followed some flappers across a nondescript lobby, into an elevator, and through a maze of hallways to a tucked-away ballroom where swing music blared and giggle water flowed.

Feel-good shopping with a dash of voyeurism, anyone? Boldfacers gave us the chance to poke around the closets of Boston's best-dressed (without risking a restraining order) at the fourth annual Stylemakers pop-up shop and party at W Boston last month. No skeletons here, just super-stylish castoffs from 25 locals - think Erica Corsano's Bottega Veneta clutch, Laura Baldini's jewel-encrusted Manolos, Jeff Lahens's cornucopia of ties and hats, and no shortage of leopard prints and sequins from former Baywatch star Traci Bingham, who grooved in the aisles as DJ Shasha spun dance-ready hits.

GQ may have dubbed Boston the worst-dressed city in America, but if you ask the local designers who exhibited their work in January's Evolve: Survival of the Freshest fashion show, that's total bull. Presented by new local company Karma Flows, the night had Capital Vice, Kulturez, House of Levin, Pilots Clothing, and other streetwear lines showing off adventurous styles (including a cool collection of V for Vendetta-like masks) - and setting out to prove we're not the town of style-stunted slobs the well-heeled gentlemen of a certain rag would have the world believe.

Lot F started the new year off with a bang as revelers gathered for the FiDi gallery's monthly second-Friday opening, this time with an exhibit celebrating the evolution of Brooklyn-based street artist Anthony Vasquez. The artist and founder of the Destroy Rebuild collective began his career under the moniker AVone, but is now killing off his former persona - hence the exhibit's title, "RIPavone" - and introducing viewers to his latest solo collection alongside previous work with Destroy Rebuild.

The Sinclair - the new Harvard Square live-music venue from the Bowery Presents - feted its opening with a music-infused party (naturally) on January 9. Guests sipped pomegranate cocktails and nibbled chickpea fries, sliders, and mini brownies in a space that "pays homage to the transience of musicians," according to the venue's designer, Stephen Martyak.

As you may have heard, the world didn't actually end on December 21 - but that didn't stop a creative crew from throwing one hell of a doomsday gala at Dorchester's First Parish Church. Songstress Amanda Palmer and her husband, fantasy author Neil Gaiman, led post-apocalyptic ghouls, burlesque dancers, and the rest of the colorful crowd in raising funds to restore Torrent Engine 18, a 19th-century Dorchester firehouse that will house performances, exhibits, and studio space for visiting and resident artists.

Earlier this month, artsy nonprofit Glovebox took over DTX hangout Scholars, where local musicians Ederson, Kristin Cifelli, and the Chaparrals serenaded the culture-vulture crowd. Guests sipped specialty cocktails, bid on silent-auction items (think 2-D and 3-D artwork, a staycation at the Liberty Hotel, and a man-cave package for sports fans), and waited for the big announcement: the winner of the evening's raffle for shiny new wheels from Scooters Go Green.

Earlier this month, local designer Daniela Corte drew Boston's most stylish to the W to shop, sip, and raise some green for the Robin Hood Foundation's Sandy relief effort. All proceeds from the evening's signature cocktails - like the Ricardo (heavy on the tequila) and the Daniela (prosecco laced with gold glitter) - were donated, as was a portion of proceeds from Corte's new collection of fierce leggings, stretchy knit numbers accented with sequins, silk, and faux leather.

Sumeria Group, a newish network that connects young professionals in Boston and four other cities with social-engagement opps, recently welcomed a few hundred pretty young things to a formal party at the Seaport Hotel. Well-dressed revelers said goodbye to November with a Fall Finale fundraiser for not one, but four partner organizations: Cristo Rey Boston High School, college-access nonprofit Let's Get Ready, student-entrepreneurship program BUILD, and the American Red Cross's Hurricane Sandy relief efforts.

Music and fashion have long been inextricably linked. And the Boston scene is no exception. The 25th annual Boston Music Awards were a celebration of that intersection of music and style, with five floors of performances, drinks, and creative expression. Here, the fashion statements came through as loud and clear as the songs.
