Welcome to "Meet the Mayor," a segment in which we interview local Foursquare Mayors in
their natural habitats.
TheatreBill Blumenreich Jr.
What do you do
here?I'm a managing partner. It's a family business. We used
to own the Comedy Connection at Faneuil Hall. Four years ago, we moved here so
we could have a bigger capacity and bigger names. When I first started, you
could bring in local comedians and sell out small comedy clubs without
advertising because stand-up was really hot. That fad kind of passed. Now you
have to bring in somebody really famous and advertise a lot to sell tickets.
that you guys kept this building's original name. Do you wish they had called
it something sexier when they built it 100 years ago?I think "Wilbur" is sexy. Actually, not really. Wasn't
the guy who owned the horse on Mister Ed named Wilbur? Wasn't there a Wilbur in
Web? Isn't that the name of the pig?
upcoming acts to incorporate fake blood, like GWAR did the other night?Kathy Griffin won't, but Pauly Shore
might. We had Tony Clifton once. He'll flick his cigarettes into the audience
and throw his drinks at the customers and they love it. That doesn't usually
happen here, though.
