Much as you don’t get to choose your nicknames, if you are a rock and roll group you don’t get to decide your legacy. Take the example of The Troggs: I’m sure if Reginald Maurice Ball d/b/a REG PRESLEY had gotten to dictate the history book write-up of his ahead-of-their-time group, he would have declared Troggsmusic to be the greatest rock and roll ever made.
On Saturday afternoon we drove around Vermont surrounded by mountains covered in snowy trees, thinking about coffee. We accidentally listened to no music, but that's not really a problem when you're stuck in a car with Katie Crutchfield and Joe Steinhardt. Last year sister spoke at this series in New York called “Five Minute
Punk Stories” where musicians and writers share quick, funny reflections
on shows and bands and songs.
THE LIGHTS OUT “Gottagetouttahere” -- In honor of the Superdome last night! As heard on Jersey Shore a few months back...
THE BOZO NIGHTMARE “Content & Satisfied” -- From The Moon And The Stars EP, playing Jacques Cabaret this Friday, February 8 with Death Walz '76 and Evan Greer.
THE MILLIGRAMS “You Don’t Need To Think” -- Off the Castin Spellz EP from October.
JIM FLORENTINE, comedian and Special Ed from Comedy Central's Crank Yankers, was in town a couple weeks back to deliver some hilarious stand-up, including material from his very first attempts at humor, documented on his latest CD, Awful Jokes: From My First Comedy Notebook. It’s cringe worthy stuff for the composer, but so bad it’s good for the audience (sample: “I broke my toe the other day and I couldn’t move it.
As the ongoing game of Boston booking agent musical chairs continues to spin 'round, CROSSROADS PRESENTS appears to be investing in its own religious pew.
Crossroads Presents, the booking company that is a venture of Live Nation New England president Don Law and the talent-buying company for Brighton Music Hall, the Paradise Rock Club, and other Boston venues, has gotten even more indie recently, becoming involved in the “marketing” of 225-capacity room Church in the Fenway area
It is a given that a set by Madrid's DJ CHUS + PABLO CEBALLOS will feature their special, "Iberican" take on "tribal" house music. In their two-hour drop at Bijou on Friday night, low octave statements in the shape of samba and batucada rhythm -- the duo's bottom line for a decade and more -- powered the action from start to close.

Are you an alligator? Cuz we're a mama-papa coming for you. Since the Patriots shit the bed two weeks ago, there wasn't any good reason to get excited for this weekend... until now. WFNX goes all-in on the Thin White Duke for our first ever SUPER BOWIE WEEKEND, a two-day broadcasting affair with more hits than Ray Lewis.
In this day of social networking, it's damn near impossible to keep focus and not get wicked jellz of the Super Awesome Lifestyles of everyone around you. You're at work, suffering, or you're dealing with the family, who won't stop nagging, or the pets, who are shitting on the new carpet, or whatever else sucks the life out of your day.
Show spotlight! Saturday night at Brighton Music Hall in Allston, Irish-born-and-Boston-bred soul crooner and two-time defending Boston Music Awards “Male Vocalist of the Year” Christian McNeill & Sea Monsters celebrate the national release of new record Everything’s Up For Grabs, and to mark the occasion, the Phoenix teamed up with Q Division records for an EP starring the show’s flavor-charged lineup.

PALMA VIOLETS “Best of Friends” [Rough Trade]
After making their stateside debut at the Middle East in Cambridge last week — a few hours before dropping by WFNX.com for a chat, hang out on air, and pick some tunes — it was clear we hadn’t heard the last of Palma Violets
We've been fans of the sharp pop acumen of songwriter BRIAN E. KING for quite a wile, all the way back to when he interned here at the Phoenix and refused to listen to any music released after 1970. In the last few year's he's been making the rounds with Oranjuly -- check out the sweet-as-punch single "The Coldest Summer" -- but re-emerged late last year with his new project, PARKS
GENTLEMEN HALL “Sail Into The Sun” -- New track from the flute-pop sextext. The band is currently recording new material in beautiful and scenic Cleveland, Ohio.
THE DAILY PRAVDA “Moonage Daydream” -- Super Bowie Weekend arrives on Saturday, but not before Boston Accents throws a hometown pre-game show on WFNX on Friday, featuring performances by Pravda, as well as.
Though many dance music club owners are said to tell their DJs what to play, it certainly cannot have been the case at Bijou Boston's Gold Room on Thursday night; because the set that Bavarian-born, 31-year-old DANIEL BORTZ dropped sounded extremely unlike any that this writer has heard. Here was not the stomp and edgy harshness of techno, not -- despite some online track purchase sites' characterization of him -- the sentimental softness of house music.
