Friday night saw a blowout bonanza of industrial noise, as Somerville’s Starlab played host to SUDDEN INFANT, the long-running, highly-admired project of Joke Lanz, a Swiss national living in Berlin. Influenced by actionism, fluxus, and dada, Lanz’ physical, bodily brand of noise and performance art is shot through with perverse humor and warped reflections on daily life.
2011 is the year of the Successful Boston Music Festivals. DIY Fest ruled. Starlab Fest ’11 was simply amazing. Boston is hungry for more.
The recording studio/venue showcased Boston’s finest and Ohio’s metalest at an all-day festival of friendship and good times, a sequel to the success of last year's festival.
By now they should know better, but it’s clear Boston thrash-metal dudes RAMMING SPEED just don’t give a fuck. Since the band’s formation in 2007, previous tours have included van breakdowns in the middle of the desert; getting arrested at gunpoint in San Francisco (on suspicion of kidnapping, charges were later dropped); and having $5000 worth of band money, laptops, journals, and other shit stolen from their van before a gig in Italy.
