UPDATE: The club will stay open another week, promising a few send-off parties, and the extension starts Sunday night with DJ Coralcola and the Mmmmaven crew. Much nicer way to go out.
THE ENORMOUS ROOM, a staple of the forward-thinking nightclub scene in Cambridge's Central Square, will throw its last party this Saturday when DJ Evaredy works the turntables.
THURSDAY 01.13 | THROWED @ Middle East downstairs
Is Throwed Boston’s biggest dance party? Several hundred screaming-mad, scantily clad, college-aged electro kids can’t be wrong, right? Despite Facebook groups like “Enough with the Throwed Pictures,” E-Marce’s party was promoted from Tuesdays to Thursdays.
We honestly have no idea what to expect when Shitaly takes the stage (couch?) tonight at Enormous Room in Central Square for the annual Winter Solstice Party, a John Flax (aka DJ Ectocooler) tradition that began a few years ago when the Vandelles sonically destroyed the Oxfam Cafe at Tufts.
But we're told Shitaly sound something like "goth-prog," and we wouldn't be surprised if we were sitting here this time next year writing about how goth-prog totally replaced witch haus as the coolest thing ever in 2k11.
Tweet Just In: Broken Social Scene's Brendan Canning will spin a guest DJ set at Enormous Room in Cambridge tomorrow night, Sept. 16, joining the fine folks at BLVD Boston and Rescue Buy/Sell/Trade for a wet hot Central Square dance party titled... PARTY. No need fucking around with clever names when you know simply what must be done.
@ Good Life
United Styles 6 descends on Boston this weekend, but the World B-Boy Cup afterparty at Good Life is where the true playas pop bottles. DJs On & On, Brek. One, and others throw down the reggae and hip-hop across two floors, with plenty of breakin’, poppin,’ and lockin’ to go around.
FRIDAY 05.28 | CHUCKIE @ Royale
Don't worry, it's not the Chuckie who climbs out of your
toybox in the middle of the night and chews your face off. It's Chuckie the lovable Dutch DJ who's been causing outbreaks of jawdrop
wherever he spins. Catch the rising star before he takes the party back to the Hague.
FRIDAY 04.16 | DENNIS
Underbar | If you ditched the cold and hit this year's Winter Music
Conference in Miami,
there's a good chance you had your ass taken over by "Hey Hey" - the addictively bouncy and
welcomely ubiquitous breakout hit from Dennis Ferrer. See what else the man can
take hold of when he hits Underbar this Friday.
THURSDAY 03.11 | THROWED @ Middle
East upstairs | Our man Southern Belle joins the Series and NYC electro hunx Designer Drugs and DJs
E-Marce and Denny Le Nimh for a long night of all sorts of 18+
inappropriateness. Fans of hard-edged indie, electro, and bass? This is your
472 Mass Ave,
Cambridge | 9 pm | 18+ | $12 |
FRIDAY 02.12 | SINDEN WITH SHUTTLE | Middle East downstairs | One of Together’s hottest showcases brings together London hipbone threat Sinden (Mad Decent, Atlantic Jaxx), the skittering spacescapes of Shuttle (whom you may recognize from behind Passion Pit’s drum kit), and the return of electro duo Staccato from LA-la land.
This week in the Phoenix, Chris Faraone talks to PACEY FOSTER -- "the biggest nerd hip-hop historian in all of Boston" -- about Pacey's Boston chapter in the upcoming HIP HOP IN AMERICA: A REGIONAL GUIDE, and specifically about the early days of Boston hip-hop. Topics include Magnus Johnstone's groundbreaking WMBR show "Lecco's Lemma," extremely rare demos from Edo G's original Fresh To Impress Crew and Keithy E, who later had more success as GURU of Gang Starr.
If you missed their live debut back in June, OXYTOCIN returns to take over Beat Research tonight at Enormous Room. That would be a few feet down Mass Ave from the nondescript office above a Walgreens that features prominently in this Sunday's New York Times Magazine cover story on Harmonix and the creation of The Beatles: Rock Band
