ROLANDO ROCHA, a DJ and track maker much more veteran than his youthful appearance, dropped a two-hour-plus set Thursday night at Cambridge's Middlesex Lounge. The floor was almost brim-full of fans who demonstrated that they knew his work even though Rocha is hardly a household name even in dance music.
It should be a big autumn season for the dapper and personable dudes in PRETTY & NICE. Following up last year's Fantastic Artifact 7-inch off New York's Black Bell Records, which gave us new track "Yonkers" and a freakin' Genesis cover, the Boston joy-pop band has a new EP of fresh, hooky, goodness ready to hit the oven.
In other parts of the country, the notion of an ENDLESS SUMMER might be all about surfing. Here in Boston, it's about the dance party, and our true-school year-round residents perform a season-long jig across the city while the students are gone, gone, gone. The kids are almost back in town -- the smell of U-Haul is in the air from Allston to Cambridge, and tonight the Phoenix descends on the latter for an electro-pop explosion that'll find us riding high on the Middlesex Lounge's tasty waves of synth.
Fresh off sharing the stage with the Kills and Black Bananas over the weekend at New York City’s Converse City Carnage, VIVA VIVA are back in town to shoot a “Dead In Yr Tracks” music video tomorrow night at the Middlesex Lounge’s Swerve IV dance party.
The band of rock and roll bandits recorded four tracks over two days last September at Converse’s Rubber Tracks studio, and the results will be released next month as a gate-fold double 7-inch off Boston indie label Fort Point Recordings
Throughout the last two or three days, several earthquakes hit major metropolitan areas -- Los Angeles had a minor shake yesterday, and a severe one in Italy killed 16 while injuring 150 -- reigniting talk of the end of days. While Florida suffers from the beginning of the zombie apocalypse, bees die off in mass numbers, and natural disasters destroy buildings, public works, and my faith in the federal government, the Mayan calendar slowly counts down to our doomsday.
Need a party remedy for the grey skies overhead? Disco + house music night PETROL celebrates its third anniversary tonight at Middlesex Lounge, enlisting New York crew Death From Above to keep the beat moving. DFA A&R guy and established DJ Justin Miller and the Juan Maclean crash Cambridge to help blow out the boogie candles, and resident DJs James Gerard, Greg Teves, and William John add some familiar flavor to the booth.
Oh hey COOL RANCH, what's shakin'? How's things? Got a Halloween party tonight at Middlesex Lounge in Central Scare (love that one)? Got handjobs on the dance floor and kissing booths in the corner? Got free 'Ritos? Got Misfits? Got free-at-the-door? Well right on.
