    Out via Berlin label Adagio 830, “Scam” is the latest pop oddity produced by the prolific future-thinking minds of Brattleboro’s Sarah Smith and Zach Phillips a/k/a/ Blanche Blanche Blanche. With Chris Weisman on bass and Graham Brooks on guitar, it’s all stripped-down space pop captured by a four-track cassette, and sounds like it could have been channeled from conspirators of the distant past fearing the imminent destruction of the future: “You want that scam / you need that scam / how good does it feel? / how good does it feel?” Whether from the past, present, future, or a different dimension of time and space altogether, that sort of minimalist verse probes our brains to remember that no matter how reclusive we feel in our creative caves pining toward for impossible utopic otherworld devoid of bullshit and noise, we’re all getting scammed by someone or something.
