Busy times for VIVA VIVA. The Boston garage rock band was up for four awards at last night's Best Music Poll party, and while they were surprisingly shut out in the voting, Bodega Girls front man Evan Kenney gave the Vives a well-deserved shout-out during the presentation of Best Boston Live Act. Staying truly a part of the party, guitarist Chris Warren jumped onstage and joined Bodega in covering the Modern Lovers' "Government Center".
Hey remember that time at the #Rumble when Keith Pierce of MELLOW BRAVO ended continued his band's set at T.T. The Bear's by running offstage, guitar in hand, and ran outside onto Brookline Street and jumped atop parked cars? Well if bro-sef pulls that shit during tomorrow night's Booze Cruise, he's gonna be swimin' in tha hahbah
Holy shit remember a few years ago when BANG CAMARO blew up Harvard Square at the MayFair party? There are now confused single-parented 3-year-olds walking up and down Mass Ave because of that performance. If you missed it, peep the video above, then clear your Sunday slate this weekend for the 28th annual MayFair in Cambridge, a pretty decent offering of local rock (they often are, we have to admit) and musical sideshow attractions.
Watch out -- you might get preggers just walking into the Mid East upstairs tonight, as longtime Phoenix faves VIVA VIVA are set to drop the sexy bomb on both the lovers and the haters at their very own Valentine's Day Prom. Hell, these sly cats even have a song called "Valentine," which should be played twice tonight so both parties can get off.
Straight up: Viva Viva is this city’s best live rock n’ roll band. We stayed up way past our bedtime last night -- early this morning?!?! -- to catch some sweaty garage rock fun at the Fort Point Recordings showcase at the Middle East. It was crazytown.
If you missed it, then shame on your game. Here's what we said about Viva Viva and last night's show in our fall music preview last month: The legend of Viva Viva has grown exponentially on the shoulders of explosive live performances.
Unless you were hanging out in Allston in the early aughts, chances are you've never heard of OFFICER MAY. Phoenix readers may recall that we fucking loved those guys back in 2003, and have continued to adore pretty much everything that frontman CHRIS WARREN has put out, including his post-OM bands DIRTY HOLIDAY and BEAT AWFULS, a ridculously unsung solo album and not-often-enough releases by his latest band, VIVA VIVA
