This past Friday the 13th turned out to be a bad moon rising at Royale for Deerhunter.
The first thing working against the Atlanta indie band was that this was an early show at the recently-opened Theater District nightclub, which borrows from Avalon's old business model of having a concert just after dinner and clearing out the room for a late-night dance party that draws an etirely different crowd.
Psych-poppers Deerhunter (who play a Bowery Boston show at Royale in August) have announced their newest album, the follow-up to the double-shot of brilliance that was Microcastle/Weird Era Cont. It will be called Halcyon Digest, and, if history is any guide, it will rule.
For those wishing to get a taste before it hits stores on September 28 (or inevitably leaks to the internet before then - unless Bradford Cox figures out a way to get it on lockdown), there's a special .

The "newly renovated, state-of-the-art nightclub" now known as ROYALE (on Tremont St. where the Roxy used to be) is teaming with Bowery Presents to bring some pretty sweet shows to Boston in the coming weeks and months. The lineup includes two dates from PUBLIC IMAGE LIMITED in May, BROKEN BELLS in June, and DEERHUNTER in August.
