This week, we're rolling out our now-annual survey of the best new-ish band in each state in our great nation (The first year we did it, we also named the best band and solo artist of all time in each state, but we are presuming all such matters to be closed, so we don't want to hear about it). And even though it's not really the goal of this exercise, we still like to think of ourselves as predicting big things for the artists we anoint as the best.
We will have more on last night's Deer Tick/Jenny Lewis show at the House of Blues last night. Mostly pertaining to the former, if we're being totally honest here. Lewis wasn't bad, just didn't really do it for me. But Deer Tick certainly did not disappoint. Above, we've got "Little White Lies," another track from the forthcoming Born On Flag Day, which they were selling on vinyl at the show.
The best of what we've heard lately...
Papercuts, "You Can Have What You Want" (mp3)Devin King's review pretty well covers it: the album is not supremely original, but also impossible to stop listening to once it's got its hooks in you. They open for Vetiver at Harpers Ferry on May 6.
