In the early 1990s, while our fair city's most ambitious musicians were angling towards Boston's holy trinity of power pop, grunge, and metal, Thalia Zedek and Chris Brokaw teamed up for COME -- an epic fucked up amazing rock n roll band that none of us ever really figured out how to describe. I think we sort of just threw out a bunch of adjectives like "angular" and "bloozy" and mentioned the Stones and the Gun Club and Patti Smith and hoped it was enough.
This just in: the original lineup of '90s Boston indie rock luminaries Come -- Thalia Zedek, Chris Brokaw, Arthur Johnson and Sean O'Brien -- will re-form for a one-off at T.T. The Bear's in Cambridge on Sept. 26. Tickets go on sale Saturday at 9 a.m. through TicketWeb.
Come will then perform later in the week at the Matador Records 21st anniversary party in Las Vegas.
Well, no, we don't actually know whether ELLEN DEGENERES consciously named her new record label after Come's 1992 breakthrough Eleven: Eleven, but it would be pretty awesome if it turned out to be a tip of the hat from one gay icon to another.
Who'd have thunk that a) Ellen would not suck at being an American Idol judge, and that b) she would out-Simon-Cowell Simon Cowell by independently signing a young star who seems destined to sell more records than any of the Idol contestants?
