    A quick RIP to Andy Hummel, the founding bassist of early-‘70s Memphis power-pop group Big Star.

    It’s been a tough year for fans of Big Star, as news of Hummel’s death comes merely months after front man Alex Chilton died of a heart attack in March. Yesterday, Hummel died in his home in Texas after a two-year struggle with cancer.

    Sad news out of Memphis New Orleans today, where the Memphis Commercial Appeal is reporting that Big Star frontman and songwriter Alex Chilton has passed away. He was 59. The Appeal says the cause is believed to be a heart attack. Big Star was scheduled to play South by Southwest this weekend. Extremely sad way to end a beautiful St. Patrick's Day. Videos below.
