You know that phenomenon when you find out that a band you reeaally love is coming through town, but then you're struck with the immediate realization that you reeaally
didn't love their last album? (Not that you hated it by any means, but
it was just an odd-to-bad sideways-to-regressive step during an
otherwise unblemished career trajectory.
Animal Collective fans (and fans of all that is acid-laced, mind-bending and vaguely unsettling) rejoice! "Oddsac"
(a title that conjures up images of a deformed scrotum, dipped in
sequins) the "visual album" by the experimental, psychedelic
indie-rockers, was released on DVD this morning. (Bonus: the movie comes
packaged with a 40-page, hardcover art book.
We'll have more on last night's Animal Collective performance at the HoBo coming soon, but to tide you over, please enjoy this extended version of "Guy's Eyes" from Merriweather Post Pavilion.
To get yourself excited for this Thursday's Animal Collective show at the HoB-Bo, you can listen to a stream of their recent set at the 9:30 Club in Washington, D.C. over at NPR. Also their big box set is out now.
