2013 marks my sixth year as a resident of Massachusetts. Over the years, I’ve been perpetually awed by how many inspired artists live, make, and play here, and equally awed by the fact that so many of them inevitably go unheard by anyone outside of this state. In addition, I feel like I constantly have friends from New York and other parts of the country/world asking, "hey .
A few days after joining me in the tub for the Boston Accents party at the BMAs -- we hope to have audio of all the Q&A sessions posted online by the end of the week -- everyone's favorite rock and roll trio FAT CREEPS released a pretty sweet new video for their track "Daydreaming," which will be included on an upcoming split with Zebu! on Feeding Tube Records.
It's Wednesday, it's the middle of August, and we're all apparently hung over from Bruce Springsteen's show at Fenway Park last night. But there also seems to be a fuckton of rad new music making the rounds around Boston this week, so let's dive right into things:
Americana septet MCALISTER DRIVE feels a bit revived of late, and today they posted their new record, The Goddess, to Bandcamp
So listen, no one needs a shitty VH-1 clip show to inform us that this has been pretty much the Best Summer Ever. Though it's only July 9, I've had a hell of a time so far, eating mad pizza and hanging out at endless weekend pool parties. But things got a bit hairy when those two faves collided a few weeks ago up in beautiful and scenic Beverly, Massachusetts.
Between the couch surfing, sweet choreographed dance moves, and getting busted for izm, there's a lot of Real Life in the FAT CREEPS' new music video for their still-hyptno single "Nancy Drew." Toss in some fancy clog footwork, liberating head-banging, and some good old fashioned murder, and that's all more than enough to drape an << awesome video alert >> medallion around the Creeps' collective necks.
The FAT CREEPS are the sound of sweet, sensual musical ennui. Within the depths of 2011’s tastemaker network of bedrooms, all-ages spaces, and the underbelly of the Boston blogosphere, the hypnotic weed-smoke strum of “Nancy Drew” swam effortlessly from one ear to another, living only on Bandcamp and the eager fingertips of late-night Internet messengers.
A quick outtake/rewind from last week's Winter Preview, which highlighted ten upcoming gigs and release parties around Boston, starting off with Japanese Monster's re-boot this weekend at Church in the Fens...
JAPANESE MONSTER | Church | January 8 | July's glossy Bleeps Sweeps Creeps EP gets the re-boot treatment, re-released with two new tracks via a USB drive with enough fancy packaging to scare off Mothra.
Sunday night on Boston Accents, at the late-breaking recommendation of a trustworthy source, I spun a song released back in February by a trio called FAT CREEPS. I know pretty much nothing about them other than what Facebook tells me: they label themselves as "lazy rock," they are comprised of people named Gracie, Mariam, and Chrissy, they are influenced by LSD, and their common interest begins and ends with Macaulay Culkin.
