Fuck the gloomy weather, let's have a dance party. Tonight at Church I'm joining together two of my favorite things -- the Boston Phoenix and my own Allston-based Vanya Records -- for a neon-baked electro-pop explosion in the Fens.
While the local flair will be in full-effect with live performances by our city's own electro queen, CASEY DESMOND, and spring-fling dance-pop quartet BEARSTRONAUT -- as well as DJ sets by Xavier of GLASS TEETH, providing some dark clouds of glossy pop, and myself, spinning the more sparkling side of my usual dance sets at the pill -- tonight we also welcome the long-awaited Boston debut of PARALLELS
Well, we made it. Barely.
Roughly 60 hours, more than 2,000 miles and, remarkably, zero fatalities later, THE NEW HIGHWAY HYMNAL, BEARSTRONAUT, filmmaker Sam Greenfield, and myself crashed into Austin around 5am this moring. Thanks to a hookup by the Phoenix’s Chris Fara1, we were able to park Brucie our Vanya Records prison bus in a lot not far from the Fader Fort By Converse.
It's that time of year again. SXSW is ready to rock and roll, and once again, the Phoenix is all over it. In addition to our latest online tour diaries, detailing Liz Pelly's trek to Texas with Quilt and P. Nick Curran's road escapades in You Can Be A Wesley, we're sending eight writers and photogs to Austin next week to capture everything that happens.
