BAD RABBITS “We Can Roll” -- Brand new single from r&b/funk/rock/whatever band, playing Brighton Music Hall on New Year's Eve. We posted the video earlier in the day. This song fucking rules. Prepare for liftoff.
HOORAY FOR EARTH “Sails” -- If you're down in the New York area, HFE join Zambri, Cymbals Eat Guitars, and Grooms for a benefit for Red Hook victims of Hurricane Sandy next Thursday, November 29 at Pianos NYC.
CASEY DESMOND & TERRAVITA “Settle The Score” -- Collaboration track from earlier this year; Desmond's new album Deja Vu is out a week from today and Terravita are currently on North American tour, played Vancouver on Friday. The Terravita trio also are DJ/producers as Hot Pink Delorean. "Settle The Score" was included on this Prototype Radio mix from seven months ago:
It's a Friday edition of Accents, which means we've already cracked open the bottles of booze (vodka this way, plz) and are looking ahead to the weekend. AIR TRAFFIC CONTROLLER dropped by the studio to celebrate, play a few stripped-down song, pick a few tracks, and discuss their show tomorrow night at Great Scott in Allston
The annual BOSTON MUSIC AWARDS isn't just an award party, it's a full-on spectacle, and it wouldn't be such a wonderful shitshow without a the nearly two-dozen bands, artists, and DJs who soundtrack the event. And this year -- there's All Kindsa Bands. Here's the list of performers for this year's BMAs, which goes down Sunday, December 2 at the Liberty Hotel.
We’re riding reckless on the high seas of Boston pop, stretching our line out west to Los Angeles and reeling in a familiar fish. Former B.O.S.T.O.N.I.A.N. BLEU returns to his adopted hometown Saturday night at Great Scott, wrapping up an East Coast tour with Air Traffic Controller -- who will be live in the WFNX studio on Friday for Boston Accents.
The cats have taken over BOSTON ACCENTS. Had to run out for a bit during today's show, hope no one minded Lolabear the fuzzy little Allston kitty to take control and spin a few tracks. Of course she opened with a cat-themed band. At least she kept it Boston-based and didn't spin Cat Power or Pussy Riot. Cats tend to do what they want.
Very excited to announce that JAKE BRENNAN, producer of the Boston Music Awards, will be joining me in the WFNX studio tomorrow for a BMAs-flavored edition of Boston Accents. Brennan will sit in with me for the entire show, from 5 to 6pm EST, selecting tracks, discussing the nominee and voting process, and announcing just who will be performing live at the grand ol' shindig December 2 at the Liberty Hotel.
VIVA VIVA “Dead In Yr Tracks” -- Lead track off recent EP of the same night, the garage rock band up for Live Act of the Year in the 2012 Boston Music Awards plays the Middle East on November 27 to benefit the Prince Children's Education Fund. Jessica Prouty Band and Flat Swamp are aloso on the bill.
FAT CREEPS “Leave Her Alone” -- The second BMAs pre-party hits Redstar in Kendall Square, Cambridge, tonight, and it's Maven's Choice, where three media tastemakers pick one artist and pimp them out in front of a really cool LED screen.
ANDRE OBIN “Soft Rain” -- Performing at tonight's benefit show at O'Brien's Pub in Allston, for Hurricane Sandy relief efforts. Also on the bill are Total Pros (featuring members of Stereo Telescope and the Shills), Streight Angular, and more.
STEREO TELESCOPE “Just Like Heaven” -- From the Boston Accents Funeral Party playlist posted back in July.
Friday edition on BOSTON ACCENTS, so we brought the dance party. Kicked off with some throwback Humans, then rolled into the juice. A shorter playlist than the past few days, in number of songs, as we let a bunch of these play out their full six minutes. Dance it up.
HUMAN SEXUAL RESPONSE “Jackie Onassis” -- Opening with the Humans, who play their first Boston show in 25 years tomorrow at the House of Blues, a show moved from the Paradise due to ticket demand.
Happy Thursday, where today on Accents we spotlighted two shows this weekend at the Middle East, yelled about a whole bunch of ragtime, figured out which words we can never spell properly, and opened the show with three straight songs by the same artist. No rules radio, Boston style. Here's what we heard...
VICTORY AT SEA “The Party” -- Reunion show tonight at the MIddle East, a benefit show for Donna Shroupsky-Rain, who is facing mounting medical bills during her fight against cancer. For more on the show, check out my post earlier today on OTD.
VICTORY AT SEA “Bored Otherwise” -- Awww yeah, a double shot of Victory at Sea to open the show, started with a deep cut off 2007's All Your Things Are Gone, and here's perhaps the record's finest track.
STREIGHT ANGULAR “Hotties (Butlertron Remix)” -- American rock and roll nominated for motherfucking Song of the Year ("Everyone Is Syncopated") in the 2012 Boston Music Awards dropped this new remix today. Party coming November 14 at Middlesex Lounge in Cambridge.
BIRTHDAYS “Howolding Girls” -- Another jam from Sammy Yager, this one nicked off the November mixtape from Allston Pudding
Oh hey, Aerosmith played a show in Allston this afternoon. Perhaps you heard.
