I didn't go to after hours last night. Not because I was necessarily done partying - and not even because I was excited to get back to my hotel and break into the pool. I flipped my switch at 3am because, well, I'd had my fix for the evening and then some. Meet the group that tied me off and found the vein.

As Colombian hip-hop Gods Choc Quib Town blew down the stage at Momo's, I felt like Michael J.

Explode Into Colors pwnd my heart at the Kill Rock Stars showcase this afternoon. They are one small lady shredding a classy, black and white Danelectro baritone guitar and two other ladies totally owning shit on parallel sets of drums.

Having two drummers has become something of a look these days. Almost like an accessory to that nice American Apparel V-Neck everyone’s complimenting you on.

We just interviewed a giant goblin cock. I mean GWAR. I mean GWAR just interviewed us. I mean. I don’t know what I mean anymore. Just watch.

    We first see them here:

    And talk to one here:

It’s been quite some time since Audible Mainframe and Eclectic Collective used to regularly smash Harpers Ferry together. Those were the days; just ask the loose and juicy co-eds who used to come and throw their backs out.

But while much has changed, it’s all been in the name of progress. Over the past two years, Audible moved to Long Beach, and EC became Bad Rabbits.

There's a lot of free food in Austin during SXSW, and not just in the dumpsters out behind my hotel. A daytime walk down 6th Street offers an almost infinite amount of complimentary BBQ and other diarrhea fuel; if you dig junk food, there's even a party with free Taco Bell.

But there was only one event yesterday with free poutine, or, as you might better know it, french fries avec cheese curds and gravy (I think people in upstate New York call it "breakfast").

    Thee Oh Sees

Last night I felt a bridge buckle the way the floor does at a small venue show. Around three hundred kids showed up at a pedestrian bridge over a river at 3 A.M. to see Thee Oh Sees try to burn it down. How no one fell into the river below is still a mystery. Like the last time we saw them, the music was indistinguishable from the atmosphere.

I waited in a massive line outside of the Beauty Bar amongst the most dedicated “scensters” and “emos” for a good 20 seconds before realizing that everyone around me was waiting to see “crabcore-ers” Attack Attack at Red 7, right next door. There was no line for the Bay Area Takeover at Beauty Bar, and a pretty small crowd inside.

    6th St Wednesday Night

I woke up this morning enveloped in a sunken air mattress with the sun in my eyes and my head pounding. I’ve seen a lot of stuff. I also got my first sun burn today. Here are some things:

    Magic Magic

We caught the last three songs of Magic Magic’s set at the Spill. They get better every time I see them, even when they insist that they were too drunk to perform well.

    SXSW DAY ONE

12:20 PM. PASTE MAGAZINE PARTY AT GALAXY ROOM. Sneak in the door just in time to learn how to pronounce BASIA BULAT's first name, and to see her play a really great song on a granny harp -- which will be your new favorite instrument if you like to hammer on shit and strum on shit at the same time. I have no idea why there aren't more black metal bands with electric granny harps.

So I’m out back at Side Bar waiting for that dude Kosha Dillz to rock. It was a showcase for his distributor, so I figured I would show some hip-hop love among the indie rock snobs.

I went to order my second free Lone Star, and the bartender asked who I was there to see. I told her I came for the only rapper on the bill, and she told me that something happened or some shit.
