But we’re told it’ll take a few weeks for the FCC to transfer the license, and WFNX has been gracious in letting BOSTON ACCENTS continue its run until the very end. As many outlets are now reporting, ADAM YAUCH aka MCA of the BEASTIE BOYS has passed away at the age of 47. Yauch has battled with a cancerous parotid glad for the past three years, but it's yet unknown if his death is tied to the cancer.
Soul music powerhouse Solomon Burke’s life was filled with great performances — from tent revival meetings to sweltering nights in southern roadhouses to concerts at the Apollo, the Montreux Jazz Festival, Bonnaroo, and even a Ku Klux Klan rally.
But one of the most memorable, at least for the few in attendance, was in 1994 at the Original House of Blues in Cambridge, where Burke — after two sold-out nights playing a catalog of hits reaching back to 1961 — donned the raiment he wore as bishop of the House of God for All People church and sang gospel to an audience of roughly 30 sitting rapt at his feet as he perched on the lip of the stage.
Metal fans mourn a legend today as early this morning former Sabbath frontman and solo artist Ronnie James Dio lost his battle with stomach cancer. Dio's wife Wendy announced the sad news in a message on the rocker's official site. Less than 24 hours earlier, Wendy Dio posted a tweet saying Ronnie James was "still hanging in there
Sad news out of Memphis New Orleans today, where the Memphis Commercial Appeal is reporting that Big Star frontman and songwriter Alex Chilton has passed away. He was 59. The Appeal says the cause is believed to be a heart attack. Big Star was scheduled to play South by Southwest this weekend. Extremely sad way to end a beautiful St. Patrick's Day. Videos below.
