A mere three months prior to its release, a high-bit-rate rip of the new Dinosaur Jr. album Beyond has leaked to the internet. It's the first album with Barlow since '89, and on first listen -- disclaimer: we're about three songs in and counting -- it's loud, dirty, and pretty fucking good. Those are all qualities one associates with the Barlow-era Dino, but our first impression is a kind of way more punk rockish Where You Been? (and yes, we know Lou wasn't on that one).
IF YOU GO:
Here's what we know about Peter "Zebbler" Berdovsky. He's 27 or 29 years old. He faces up to five years in prison for putting up a bunch of lite-brite Mooninites. As the government's scapegoat for yesterday's "bomb hoax" -- which played in every other media market in the country as, "Look how stupid those Boston people are" -- he's about to become a very public martyr for the viral-marketing industry.

Yes, it's a bad day to be a 'droid in Boston. But while the BPD sweeps up after a Mooninite invasion, our favorite home-grown robot-rock outfit are gearing up for a takeover.
Long before he was catching 8.5s on P4K, Grizzly Bear's Edward Droste was skulking around Cambridge, keeping an amazingly low profile given that his ancestors are pretty damn Harvarded-up. His Bear family broke out of Brooklyn, but he brought the clan back to Mass to record Yellow House at his mom's house (guess what color?) in Watertown, and he'll be back in Boston to play the Museum of Fine Arts's indie-rock series this Friday, February 2.

The Lot Six are officially disbanded, but if you think you’ll be seeing less of those guys, think again. Singer Dave Vicini plays solo as Dave Cave and with the backing of friends as Viva Viva and the Beat Awfuls

Having dropped the stylishly percolating ProTools pop of their debut like a cheating boyfriend, ROH DELIKAT ditch the sequencer and fall in love with the sound of guitars on their new disc Sunny. Their matching of a pretty voice with dark, askew melodies winks back at the old-school 4AD roster, the sound of pale girls junked on goth and dub.

Had the Lot Six's farewell gig at the Middle East not coincided with the Phoenix's 40th anniversary at Avalon, there would've been a lot more of us there. As it is, we sent Will Spitz -- and the rest of Age Rings -- in our stead. Also on the bill were Mittens, Headband, Eyes Like Knives, and -- check second photo from bottom -- an impromptu reunion by Officer May during the intermission.

Thanks to the dudes over at Arts & Crafts, we've got AMY MILLAN tickets and CDs to give away in advance of her solo gig Wednesday at the Paradise. Those of you who don't know Amy, check the video and track below. We'd post more of her bio here except that we'd be spoiling the super-easy "trivia" question you'll need to answer in a second.

Cave-In fans who've grown beards while waiting for Brodsky's lo-fi, indie-folk solo output to crystallize into something louder are hereby warned not to miss his forthcoming disc Octave Museum (HydraHead), his most consistent outing since his unreleased-but-widely-bootlegged Static Intellect
