After four kickass years of publishing Boston music news, show promos, and song reviews (among, you know, a billion other things), the good folk of BOSTON BAND CRUSH decided to call it a day this morning (read the full announcements here). Co-founder ASHLEY WILLARD and editor RICHARD BOUCHARD joined me in the WFNX studio to discuss the blog, its four years on the daily beat all over Boston, and all sorts of other verbal ragtime.
By now the whole idea behind ONE NIGHT BAND is well known -- take 40 Boston musicians, randomly pair up their hung-over asses early Saturday morning into groups of five, send them into nearby practice spaces and studios for a few grueling afternoon hours, and by the evening's showtime, eight new bands rock out a few originals and a cover.
The annual Boston rock matchmaker party ONE NIGHT BAND returns to the Middle East in Cambridge in September, and today organizer Ashley Willard announced the preliminary list of participants, which includes members of MELLOW BRAVO, GHOST BOX ORCHESTRA, FAT CREEPS, THE SHEILA DIVINE, THE FAGETTES, and a handful of others.
The countdown to the Phoenix's annual, reader-voted BEST MUSIC POLL is just about over. To find out who won, check online and in the fishwrap tomorrow morning: this year's Best New Act will be staring back at you from newsboxes all over the city.
This evening at 5 pm, we continue our BEST MUSIC WEEK series of free, outdoor concerts in Downtown Crossing -- with $3 Bud and a wine bar for the adults.
