Boston Accents 01.02.13: Winter Preview with Mals Totem, Cult 45, Sammy Witness, Westland, Cry Guy, Boom Said Thunder

First show of 2013! Woo! After devoting all of last week to the Best of 2012, we looked ahead today on BOSTON ACCENTS to what new sounds we can expect in the early months of 2013, including a few cuts from the Boston Phoenix Winter Preview, a teaser of the upcoming Class of 2013 feature, and a few other new jams we've been feeling here at WFNX. Happy New Year!

MALS TOTEM “Strangest Motion” -- First single off new EP out later this month, catch a preview this weekend when the band launches a Bandcamp page. Above image by Faye Nightingale Photography, captured at the Red Room at Cafe 939.

ABADABAD “All The Bros Say” -- Teasing the upcoming Class of 2013 feature in the Boston Phoenix with this band, who are playing Great Scott on January 10 with Onlso, and...

BOOM SAID THUNDER “Shadow” -- ...these cats, who are at McGann's Pub tomorrow, January 4. Boom Said Thunder's new record Exist is out March 1.

CULT 45 “Back To The Grave” -- New record On High is out this Friday at Radio in Somerville, and the rock band led off our Phoenix Winter Music Preview.

GOZU “Salty Thumb” -- New album The Fury of a Patient Man isn't out until April, via Small Stone Recordings, but we're already feeling this Urge Overkill-flavored joyride of a jam. Playing O'Brien's in Allston on January 26.

YOU CAN BE A WESLEY “Phase” -- Beloved indie band may have played their final show this past New Years Eve at Allston's Regina Pizzeria, but left us with the Promwave EP a few weeks ago.

GLENN YODER & WESTERN STATES “Younger Brother” -- Former Cassavette also spotlighted in Winter Preview, this is off his new Javelina record, out January 26 at the Lizard Lounge in Cambridge.

THE SUSAN CONSTANT “Locked Up” -- Another Winter Preview artist, delivering new record Shapes January 19 to the Middle East in Cambridge.

KINGSLEY FLOOD “Down” -- Battles arrives next month, and the band plays Brighton Music Hall in Allston on February 9. Track was recently hyped by Rolling Stone.

WESTLAND “Steady Now” -- New record Intimacy Without Intricacy is out this Tuesday, and the pop-rock band will be hanging with me here in the WFNX studio. Playing the Middle East in Cambridge on February 7.

HO-AG “See You At The Brush Pass” -- New track from a resurrected Ho-Ag, a teaser for a new record out later this year.

SAMMY WITNESS “Everything To Lose” -- Debut album Tiger Lily out January 18 at T.T. The Bear's in Cambridge, recorded by Jason Dunn of the Luxury, who is now in her live band.

CRY GUY “Gumdrop Wishes” -- New project from Cameron Potter of Little Spoon.
