In recent years THE HUSH NOW -- Boston’s finest purveyors of Halloween greetings spawned from the depths of their spooky lounge of rock -- have done everything from fleeing from the charm of Mephistopheles to dancing with the midnight ghosts of Dudley town. While they're in the studio prepping a new record, the follow-up to last year's Memos, the Hush Now kick off our Playlist of Evil with “The Flapper,” a stylish spin around a depraved soul’s dark carnival of desire.
Also elevated from the depths of Boston rock are noisy garage rock trio CREATUROS, who raise their pRIMORDIAL sOUNDs-issued Swampp Thingg cassette on October 29 at ZuZu in Cambridge, teaming up with the Night of the Living Dead party for a creeptastic bash that also features DJ sets from Freak Flag and New Hampshire rock and roll spitfires the Miggs.
We cruise down the sonic highway of the damned with Boston trio THE DEVIL’S TWINS, who find musical bloodstains ("What's With the Blood On Your Shirt") off their Handsome Devils record that dropped in May, then get lost as THE BYNARS stab synths inside a high-sped Haunted House, before crashing Great Scott on November 15 alongside Camden, the Tins, and J/Q.
We then river-jump to Somerville to close out the mix with a new track from CHRISTIAN MCNEILL and his eerie SEA MONSTERS, who dream of a soulful Hades on long-awaited debut record Everything’s Up for Grabs, out on Election Day 2012 off Q-Dee Records but getting two nights of release party treatment November 9 and 10 at Precinct in Union Square, Somerville. The Baker Thomas Band featuring Danielle Miraglia joins in on night one, and Dennis Breenan rounds out the bill the next night.
