I was half-asleep around 3 am sometime last week when my half-crunked channel-surfing haze crashed hard on something called AMTV, the "former" music network's overnight block of (*gasp!*) music videos. I think it was showing an AVICII video, so I sat there staring blankly at it, then I watched something else dance-related that I didn't recognize. A few videos in -- just thinking, "this is cool that MTV is showing videos like this" -- was this crazy, colorful, New Orleans bounce vid from DIPLO FEATURING NICKY DA B featuring a bunch of ladies shaking their booties like Katrina was gonna come back had they dared to stop. What's particularly cool about this AMTV thing is they show the video's credits throughout the entire clip (or at least they did for this one) and I immediately recognized the director -- occasional Boston resident Julian Wadsworth, a/k/a DJ Red Foxx of Hearthrob fame, credited here as @LILINTERNET. It's, uhhh... something.
Tonight at Good Life, KarmaloopTV (at which Wadsworth is a creative director), Harpoon, and Beat Research are all teaming up for a free dance party with Mr. Da B, DJs Rusty Lazer, Pace, and Flack, as well as the M|O|D crew, the collective who spun our Electric Summer party last month at the W and who also just released their fourth mixtape yesterday.
Check it out via the M|O|D Bandcamp, and practice that ass drop.
