[sxsw2012] The DIY Touring Band's Guide to Playing Shows, Eating Good, and Having Fun in Boston

As proud Bostonians who are psyched on our local scene, it bummed us out that so many Boston-based labels, blogs, bands, and other curators couldn't afford the trip to Austin this year. We wanted to make sure they were all represented at SXSW12 in some way. And we also wanted to make sure that when sweet bands come through town, they know exactly who to hit up.

That's why LIZ PELLY and I, with help from NINA MASHUROVA and PATRICK MCDERMOTT, created this totally unofficial DIY guide to playing shows in Boston. We just blew out our newsroom printer and issued a billion tiny papercuts in putting a few hundred of these informative guides together, and we're lugging the dead-tree version of these down to Austin for next week's SXSW. People have already been asking us for copies, and we heard some of you have the internet, so here's something to tide you over til we get back: the ebook version. Still totally cut and pasted -- that's not photoshop, those are Pelly's actual scotch-tape marks. We may have put in some hyperlinks, but that's just because we got excited about technology and whatnot. GO BOSTON.
