Brooklyn-based psychedelic electropop group YEASAYER put on a blinding spectacle of a performance at last night’s sold out show at Royale. Before taking the stage, the lights went out and the speakers blasted Q Lazzarus’s “Goodbye Horses.” This immediately brought on all sorts of Silence of the Lambs quotes from the audience, as well as a few pretty decent Buffalo Bill impressions, all in giddy anticipation for Yeasayer’s heady dance beats.
Complete with a seizure-inducing display of strobe and LED lights, the band played an even mix of fan favorites and some amazing brand new tunes before two-song encore that included "2080" off 2007's All Hour Cymbals.
Oh, and singer Chris Keating is one likeable dude. He had the crowd in stitches in between songs, and gave the roadies some much-needed recognition. In fact, he had me 99.99% convinced when he uttered the bromidic phrase that every avid concertgoer hates to hear: “This has been the best show of our whole tour.”
If you were there, you probably believed him too.
