[phlipcam video] Neon Indian @ the South End's Power Station

Sunday was weird. I mean, it felt like Boston -- crisp scarf-weather air, a loose, relaxed Sunday afternoon in the South End, watching the leaves change colors and casually carousing the SoWa market. But then, a block or two over, something very un-Boston-like went down: a free, all-ages, kinda-outdoors-ish concert by Neon Indian in the neighborhood's hollowed-out, towering open-air brick Power Station, presented by Levi's and Urban Outfitters as part of their "Secret Generator Series." It felt like something right out of SXSW, kicking it with a few hundred people -- the place could have held 1,600, we're told -- and just seeing a free show by a touring band without any hassle or drunk dipshit ruining it for everyone. Even the guy in the Patriots jersey behaved himself. A chill wave, indeed.

I talked with one of the dudes from Urban Outfitters, and he said the city was exceptionally responsive to hosting the show, so hopefully more things like this happen around town. The Power Station proved to be a GREAT place to see a live performance like this -- note to nightlife promoters: the mid-day, all-ages dance party possibilities are endless -- but we'll take more shows like this pretty much anywhere.

Here's some phlipcam video I shot of "Terminally Chill," Neon Indian's second song in their 45-minute set. Forgive me for the part where I try to walk around to get a better, front-end view. It was mid-day, I didn't have my usually steady drunken hand.
