MP3 of the Week: Stephen Brodsky, "Here In Spirit"

Cave-In came roaring back louder than ever last year, but that doesn't mean frontman STEPHEN BRODSKY is done foraging for eclectic new solo strategies. His new Here’s to the Future (a limited release on Hydra Head) pushes the psychedelic possibilities of acoustic-guitar jangle, layering lo-fi melodies with detuned, string-buckling chords and overdriven buzz. It never sounds prettier or creepier than album highlight “Here in Spirit,” a six-minute song that introduces killer riffs, pop hooks, and jarring noise without really ever plugging in.
