You didn't misread that headline. I was so disturbed by this Young Cons performance on Fox News that I cut a dis track and video - even though I vowed to quit rhyming for good last year after I wrote this feature about entering a rap battle.
My justification for emerging from retirement is twofold: 1 - While I can't spit for shit, I can still rap better than the Young Cons; and 2 - These guys need to get slapped around, and no self-respecting rapper would ever beef with them.

Lee Konitz is down but not out. The 81-year-old jazz icon, scheduled to play a 7:30 set at the Regattabar last night with his young backing trio, Minsarah, was taken to Mt. Auburn Hospital after soundcheck complaining of chest pains.
As I've been mentioning all over Facebook and Twitter, I have a major feature on La Coka Nostra (House of Pain + Ill Bill + Slaine) dropping next week to coincide with the release of the super group's long-awaited debut, A Brand You Can Trust - as well as with their headline spot on the Rock the Bells tour (which swings through the Comcast Center in Mansfield next Saturday, July 18).
Tributes to the late Morphine frontman Mark Sandman -- who died 10 years ago this week, in Italy -- continue to pour in, including our own, and a lengthy piece on Huffington Post. On Friday, the MARK SANDMAN MUSIC PROJECT kicked off a Summer-long celebration of Sandman's musical life, with the first in a weekly series of free downloads.
So this week in the fishwrap and online we name the best emerging act from each of our fifty states (and one district). And Rye Rye, our pick from Maryland, is already making some waves. Yesterday, she premiered a video directed by her friend M.I.A., presented on this video player because it was reportedly banned by YouTube.

Hopefully Anderson Cooper will blog the video in a few minutes, but for now -- if you missed it on AC360 just now -- let the record show that Michael Jackson's pet monkey, Bubbles, is alive and well. This was not at all evident a few days ago, when, just hours after MJ's death, Jackson's ghostwriter told us that he thought Bubbles was probably not alive, and related the story of why Jackson got rid of Bubbles, which, suffice to say, was not suitable for broadcasting on CNN.
