Mp3 of the Week: Stephen Brodsky's Octave Museum

DOWNLOAD: Stephen Brodsky's Octave Museum, "Kid Defender" (mp3)
Cave-In fans who've grown beards while waiting for Brodsky's lo-fi, indie-folk solo output to crystallize into something louder are hereby warned not to miss his forthcoming disc Octave Museum (HydraHead), his most consistent outing since his unreleased-but-widely-bootlegged Static Intellect. Backed by a rhythm section on loan from Scissorfight (drummer Kevin Shurtlief) and Thee Electric Bastards (bassist Johnny Northrup), he's recorded a power-trio album that reinvigorates his best pop songwriting with psych-rock thunder and acid-wash guitar solos. While some of the songs may be familiar (we posted links to an early version of "Kid Defender" the spring of 2005), the arrangements are not. Meanwhile, the Brodsky avalanche continues: three new solo tracks are up on the Brodskymusic myspace page, another one at the God City Studio myspace page.
BUY: Octave Museum comes out Tuesday; pre-order through Newbury Comics.
SEE: The Octave Museum plays a CD-release party November 15 at Great Scott.
