OTD exclusive: Kay Hanley's "Cellars by Starlight"
Former Letters to Cleo frontwoman KAY HANLEY may have put her roots down in LA, but her heart's apparently still in the Boston scene through which she came up. In fact, her latest single, which you can download below, is a tribute to her "dear friend" and longtime Phoenix contributor Brett Milano and the column he helmed for many years (and still contributes to), "Cellars by Starlight." As Hanley posted on her website last month, "Sure, it could be perceived as pandering, but I adore him and he's a freak and he deserves to have a song written for him and anyone who knows him knows that." We couldn't agree more. Many thanks to Kay, husband Michael Eisenstein, and longtime manager Michael Creamer for getting us the track, which is also available on a split single with the local power-pop group Scamper. You can pick one up tonight when Hanley, Scamper, Hilken Mancini and Chris Colbourn, and the Knee Hi's play T.T.'s, 10 Brookline St, Cambridge | 617.492.BEAR. It's also a warm-up of sorts for the big, sold-out Hot Stove Cool Music hootenanny Sunday at the Paradise.
