When you think of the bands most likely to play sun-drenched gigs in wide-open public spaces, Spoon probably don't come to mind. But perhaps they should, if only as an antidote to the heat. Britt Daniels is fond of chilly keyboard tones and wiry guitars, tempering new-wave pop with cool precision. In support of their new Gimme Fiction, Spoon play the Boston Phoenix/WFNX New Music Series, with LONGWAVE, at the DCR Hatch Shell on the Charles River Esplanade (green line to arlington st. stop, walk towards the river), Boston 6 pm 781.595.WFNX.
